COAST GUARD, CANADIAN FORCES TEAM TO HOIST NAVY CREWMAN

SEATTLE - Coast Guard and Canadian forces came together to transport a sick 19-year-old Navy crewman today.

The Coast Guard comand center here received a report from the crew of the Navy Destroyer Milius that the man was suffering from a high fever and needed to be removed to shore for medical treatment.  The Milius was 100 miles from the coast of Vancouver Island at the time and the command center worked with the Canadian Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria, B.C., to evacuate the man from the vessel.

A Canadian Cormorant helicopter crew was launched to hoist the man while a C-115 Buffalo aircraft crew provided communications support.  The man was hoisted by the helicopter and taken to a hospital in Comox, B.C.
