GROUP PORT ANGELES TO HOST GIRLS CAMP

SEATTLE - Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles will host the Gifted Individuals Realizing Leadership Skills(GIRLS) Camp, July 16, 2008 for an afternoon of Coast Guard mission activities and competitions.  The camp will begin at 1 p.m. at the Group Port Angeles training room, in the Pease Building.

The GIRLS Camp is a week-long program that works on teaching 20 girls teamwork, leadership, non-traditional careers, mentorship and self-awareness.

Through the program the girls learn to work as a team, the importance of solidarity as a group, and to identify their own leadership skills and fellowship abilities.  The girls also have an opportunity to meet many women who are working in non-traditional careers and participate in hands-on activities to learn new skills in each career.

On July 16, the campers will spend the afternoon learning about the possible career paths within the Coast Guard and participate in several activities routinely performed by Coast Guard members.

This is the eighth year that Peninsula College has hosted the camp, which has been coordinated and directed by Karen Brown.

More information about the GIRLS Camp can be obtained by contacting Karen Brown at 360-477-9109.

Media are invited to attend the event.
