SEATTLE - A Spokane, Wash., native was one of four Enlisted People of the Year from units within the 13th Coast Guard District who represented the Coast Guard at a NASCAR race in Fontana, Calif., Feb. 25.
Petty Officer 1st Class Beth Slade was selected as the Enlisted Person of the Year for Coast Guard Group Astoria, Ore.
The four petty officers were taken to the race to represent the Coast Guard because of their outstanding service.
Slade will compete against the other individuals for the title of 13th District Enlisted Person of the Year. The 13th District Enlisted Person of the Year is scheduled to be announced in March.

SEATTLE - Slade operates a 47-foot motor lifeboat in heavy surf near Ilwaco, Wash., in November 2005. Slade is one of a few people who holds a surfman qualification in the Coast Guard.
